An Evening with ABH: “We Belong” Film Screening

Thank you to the film’s director, Ayomide Ojebuoboh, cast members Shanice Harris, Tegan Carr, Oluchi Ihionu, Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna, Lash Nolen, and facilitator Dr. Tseganesh Selameab for a powerful post-screening discussion.

Thank you to all who made our first Evening with ABH a wonderful event! We had the honor of screening Ayomide Ojebuoboh's film "We Belong: Navigating Medical School as Black Women" which gave a view into five Black women's experiences at medical schools across the country. Whether that means stepping away or deciding to continue pursuing medicine, they share perspectives that reveal the difficulties of and the beauty in how Black women have found belonging, remained authentic and stayed true to themselves in higher education spaces that were initially built without them in mind.

Attendees also experienced a powerful Q&A discussion with the film's cast facilitated by Dr. Tseganesh Selameab. Ayomide shared that she began the production of this film because she wasn't seeing a lot of stories about Black women's experience in medicine, and wanted to create something for others that she wishes she had had.

We are sharing two opportunities to give including helping a medical student financially and mentally through a fundraiser in support of a Black, female, first-generation medical student  as well as  supporting the filmmaker directly.
