Meet the ABH Board and Staff

ABH Board of Directors

  • M. Etienne Djevi, MD

    he/him
    BOARD PRESIDENT
    Infectious Disease Physician

“In a busy world where there is a lot to do for our patients outside of our clinical settings, it is important to be part of an organization that is organized and in sync with my own vision of equity in healthcare.”

  • Katie Frie, DNP, APNP, ANP-BC, GNP-BC, FNP-BC, PHN

    she/her
Doctor of Nursing Practice at Winona State University

“I am passionate about advocating for better health because in our profession of nursing, we are advocates for our patients, families and communities. I believe wholeheartedly that we need to listen and hear the voices of all Minnesotans to enhance our population's health.”

  • Hailey Frye

    she/her
    Medical Student, UMN Medical School

“I am passionate about improving the health of our community inside and outside of the clinic and ABH provides opportunities to do just that.”

  • Sara Hartfeldt, MD

    she/her
    Family Medicine Physician

“The longer I work in medicine, the more I understand how many other factors affect the health of my patients. ABH creates opportunities for doctors to do more to advocate for the health of their patients outside the exam room.”

  • Gerilyn Hausback, CPA

    she/her
    TREASURER
Executive Director of myHealth for Teens & Young Adults

“I believe that all people deserve access to affordable, responsible, and honest health care. Our community will only be stronger and healthier if we ensure those that provide health care have access to the resources and support they need to be successful.”

  • Zeke McKinney, MD, MPH

    he/him
    PAST BOARD PRESIDENT
    Occupational Medicine Physician

“I’m a part of ABH because I support data-driven decisions that reinforce individual and community-based advocacy for their own needs, rather than a privilege-based focus on what community needs are from an external perspective. This type of work requires a reorientation of our thinking from blaming individuals for their social or health outcomes, and rather facing and dismantling the systems resulting in these effects, which is where ABH programs aim to succeed.

  • Sara Lopez, MPP

    she/her
    Policy Director, Unidos MN

“Our communities are worthy of a healthcare system that works for everyone.”

  • Naheed Murad, MD, MPH

    she/her
Co-Founder & Treasurer, Zakat, Aid & Charity Assisting Humanity (ZACAH); Co-Founder & Director of Clinical Operations, Rahma Heart Care

“My nonprofit experience has underscored the role of health behaviors and socioeconomic factors as key determinants of our health and wellbeing. I am an Advocate for Better Health to take an active role in dismantling the health and social inequities in our society.”

  • Riley Shearer, MSc

    he/him
    MD-PhD Student

“I think it is important that physicians work with our communities to support healthier environments and increased access to medical care.”

  • Rachel Stoll, CHW

    she/her
Community Health Worker Training Program Manager at the Minnesota Community Health Worker Alliance

“I believe that equitable access to healthy environments and healthcare are a fundamental human right. We all deserve Better Health!”

  • Sarah Traxler, MD

    she/her
    Obstetrics & Gynecology Physician

“I’m an Advocate for Better Health because I have a job that is very specific and niche, but there are several other parts of medicine and public health that I am passionate about other than reproductive health. ABH allows me the opportunity to work with colleagues around these other, vitally important issues that aren't central to my day to day work. The outlet that ABH gives me keeps me engaged and working with colleagues across specialties helps me focus on broader issues impacting patients.”

  • Bethlehem Yewhalawork, MPH

    she/her
Program Manager for Performance Management & Innovation at The City of Minneapolis

“In my professional career I have focused on reducing commercial tobacco use among youth and historically marginalized communities, as well as advocating for other policy changes related to the social determinates of health. I have advocated for numerous commercial tobacco prevention policies locally and statewide, including increasing the tobacco sales age to 21 and restricting the sale of menthol and other flavored commercial tobacco products. “
