ABH advocates for change through Public Health Initiatives.
Commercial Tobacco Prevention & Cessation
Many Minnesotans are already making positive choices to avoid the harms of commercial tobacco, but commercial tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in our state. In addition, communities that have been historically targeted by the tobacco industry, including Black, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ communities, feel the weight of commercial-tobacco related disease at a disproportionate rate.
ABH is committed to educating health professionals about e-cigarettes and other commercial tobacco products, engaging them in commercial tobacco policy decisions, and empowering providers and community members to become leaders in reducing the harms of commercial tobacco use in Minnesota.
Food Access &
Food Justice
Access to healthy, nourishing food is a basic human right. Yet far too many Minnesotans—especially children and families in under-resourced communities—face barriers to accessing the foods they need to thrive.
ABH is committed to addressing these disparities by advocating for policies that increase access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally relevant foods.
Supporting a Thriving Democracy
Recent research demonstrates that civic engagement improves the health of participating individuals by increasing agency and social cohesion, and it can also improve the community conditions that influence population health.
ABH knows that health is always on the ballot, and we are proud to be part of a growing coalition of public health organizations working to increase civic engagement among health professionals.
