Access to dental care is often treated as optional or secondary, but for many Minnesotans, it is anything but. Oral health is foundational to overall health, quality of life, and dignity. And yet, for communities relying on public programs, dental care remains out of reach far too often.

At Advocates for Better Health (ABH), we believe that effective tobacco cessation support must be rooted in trust, cultural responsiveness, and community partnership. That’s why we have been honored to collaborate with NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center, an organization that has long been a cornerstone of care for North Minneapolis and beyond.

We are seeking energetic, thoughtful, and strategically minded leaders who want to contribute their experience and perspective to a collaborative, values-driven board.

We are in deep mourning as the aftermath of the shooting in Minneapolis reverberates throughout our city, state, and community. We are heartbroken by the loss of life, and by the harm done to our collective sense of safety, stability, and wellbeing.

At Advocates for Better Health, we believe that every Minnesotan deserves to feel safe, valued, and respected. Public health is grounded in the understanding that people and communities thrive when they are treated with dignity, and that the words we use about one another matter.

Last week, Becky Timm, ABH's Executive Director joined with our project team including the Minnesota Rural Health Association and the U of MN Extension Service to present at the Minnesota Alliance of Rural Addiction Treatment Programs (MARATP) annual conference in Willmar, MN.

Last week, we traveled to Chicago to attend the National Conference on Tobacco or Health. The experience was both energizing and grounding, offering us a chance to step back from our day-to-day work and connect with the bigger picture of tobacco prevention efforts nationwide.

We’re proud to announce the launch of the Tobacco Cessation Panel—a new partnership between ABH and the Minnesota Department of Health’s Commercial Tobacco Prevention Team.

Lucy Faerber participated in Goff Public’s pro bono communications cohort for Minnesota nonprofits. The experience offered practical tools, new connections, and thoughtful insight into how nonprofits can communicate more strategically.
