To Our ABH Community

To our ABH Community,

This past weekend, we learned about the tragic shooting involving state legislators while on our way to table at Roseville’s Juneteenth Celebration. What should have been a day celebrating community and uplifting public health was instead marred by fear, anger and loss. We are mourning the loss of Representative Hortman and her husband, as well as holding hope for Senator Hoffman and his wife.

This event hits close to home. We know many of you are public advocates for access to abortion, and we have asked many of you to publicly advocate for abortion rights. This politically-motivated shooting is a stark reminder that this position is not without risk.

We have talked and processed as a staff, and our shared message bears repeating to our community of supporters. Our voices will not go quiet. Our spirits will not be dimmed. And our passion will not be extinguished. We are strong, loud and proud advocates for better health for all community members. Our position is unchanged: health equity is imperative, and we will continue to be a presence in Minnesota to advocate for legislation, funding and initiatives that center public health.

Please remember, there is no wrong or right way to feel in the aftermath of tragedy. There is no good or bad emotion– only feeling and being human. We hope you find the time and space to process and connect with others in your community. We hope you find a path to reclaim feeling safe.

Our Warmest Regards,

The ABH Board and Staff
