ABH Statement of Support: Holding Our Community In Care

We are in deep mourning as the aftermath of the shooting in Minneapolis reverberates throughout our city, state, and community. We are heartbroken by the loss of life, and by the harm done to our collective sense of safety, stability, and wellbeing. Community violence leaves lasting scars, not only on those directly affected, but on the health of an entire city.

The disruption and fear are widespread, including the difficult decision to close Minneapolis schools to prioritize safety. This is a stark reminder of how quickly a sense of normalcy and security can be taken from a community. Violence reshapes how communities move, gather, and feel secure. Safety is a foundational condition for health, learning, and belonging.

In moments like this, solidarity matters. We stand with Minneapolis communities as they grieve and heal. We encourage support for local and immigrant-owned businesses and restaurants that are essential threads of our neighborhoods and often feel the ripple effects of fear and uncertainty most acutely. Choosing to show up with care, compassion, and connection is one way we push back against harm and help restore trust.

Please remember, this moment asks for nothing more than care for one's self and our community. Whatever you are carrying — sorrow, uncertainty, or a need for quiet — it deserves space, understanding, and kindness.
